ABOUT US

Holds power to account

Disclose is the first non-profit investigative newsroom in France. We dig deep into important issues, shining a light on abuses of power and betrayals of public trust — and we stick with those issues as long as it takes to hold power to account.

Investigative journalism requires a great deal of time and resources, and many newsrooms can no longer afford to take on this kind of deep-dive reporting. As a non-profit organization, we are convinced that independent journalism should not only be available behind a paywall.

How we work

We initiate in-depth investigations of public interest and defend the public’s right to know. Disclose covers a range of topics including arms deal, environmental crime, police abuse, surveillance in Europe, health and social inequality.

Impact

Our motivation is to drive change. We work directly with those who can use what we reveal to make a difference in the world. Among positive changes, our reporting has contributed to the passage of new laws; reversals of harmful policies and practices; and accountability for leaders at local and national levels.

Our Team

Disclose’s team consists of a dozen of free-lance journalists.

Disclose has a board of directors, which meets two times per year. The chair of the board is Magali Serre, a renowned investigative journalist, and film author. The directors, who act like trustees, have overall responsibility for the finances and strategy of the newsroom. It plays no part in the day-to-day editorial decisions.

An editorial board appoints the Managing Editor, who has editorial freedom to pursue investigations.

Our finance

In face of powerful private interests, investigative journalism is now more than ever a necessity for democracy. Disclose is registered in France as an independent non-profit.

With large and small donations and regular contributions, more than three thousand readers make our work possible. Foundations enable us to implement ongoing and new projects. Book and documentary TV sales provide additional incomes.

Right now, public interest journalism is more vital than ever. Your support is needed to keep quality reporting alive.

Disclose is recognized by Equivalency determination (ED) as the equivalent of a U.S. public charity.

Transparency

Transparency in the handling of our finances and independent audits are essential for us. We publish our annual balance sheet and profit and loss statement, freely accessible to everyone

No one has any influence on the content of our work. The work of our management is overseen by a board of directors and a supervisory board.
