Our mission
As a non-profit organisation, we regard information as a public asset. That is why all our investigations in both written and video form are freely accessible.
Independent, accountability journalism
Disclose journalists conduct their investigations as a team over several months on general interest topics that are too often ignored, including environmental and financial crime, public health, industrial lobbying, arms sales and sexual violence. Our investigations uncover abuse of power. They hold leaders to account and have a positive impact on society.
Devoting time and resources to investigating
To disclose information hidden from the public, we need to get out into the field, meet sources, crosscheck tips and investigate. Long-term journalism takes time. Il also requires resources and complete independence from those with political and financial power. For these reasons, we have opted for an original funding model: donations from readers.
An NGO dedicated to the right to information
In addition to its investigative work, Disclose supports the public in their struggle to assert their right to information and hold to account those with political and economic power in the general interest.
Our commitment can be demonstrated through freely accessible investigation guides for all. As part of their work our journalists mine companies’ legal data, information about lobbies and polluting industries in France and the European Union as well as court rulings. The public can contribute, too.
We also aim to promote the right to information through our fight for transparency in the democratic process. Therefore, Disclose initiates administrative procedures – and, at times, court proceedings – to compel the state and local authorities to make information public in the general interest.
Partnerships with civil society
In an effort to enhance the impact of our investigations and to increase pressure on public officials, Disclose partners with NGOs, universities, scientists and legal experts.
We also work closely with French and foreign media outlets on some investigations. Through these partnerships, our journalists are able to collect additional information, crosscheck it with colleagues and, as a result, increase the impact of our revelations.
