Our impact

The media’s primary mission may be to inform but at Disclose we believe that investigations are useful only if they have a tangible impact on society.

Given the scale of the scandals we uncover, we give the public the tools for them to put pressure on those with economic and political power in order to bring about change. Throughout the year, we inform you about the tangible changes our work leads to.

These are some examples of the repercussions of Disclose’s investigations since it was set up in 2018:

  • A minister has been sidelined because of a conflict of interest: Following our revelations on hidden family ties between Energy Transition Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher and oil and gas company Perenco, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne was forced to take the minister off all matters pertaining to the group.
  • Legislation has been amended to strengthen the protection of minors: In response to our investigation on sexual violence against minors in amateur sports clubs, the government has made security checks compulsory on coaches working with children. A ministerial unit has also been set up to interview survivors. More than 2,000 minors have been interviewed, leading to some 100 court proceedings and bans against abusers.
  • Protesters have blocked France’s arms deliveries: As a result of our reports on the sale by the French state of military equipment used by Saudi Arabia against civilians in Yemen, activists blocked cargo ships in Le Havre and Marseille, preventing them from loading their cargo and from delivering it to Saudi armed forces.
